tile (form)

Tile, you might think, is a simple word to define. But, not so fast! Although an average person would envision ceramic tile when he hears that Wolfe Flooring installed tile in his hotel's corridors, the assumption may be wrong. Tile is better interpreted as a product's form or shape than a product's material composition. Tiles are piece goods in contrast to sheet goods or slabs. In Central Florida and South Florida, laminate and wood are referred to as pieces, planks, or strips. Many flooring products are now available in a tile form:

  • ceramic tile,
  • glass tile,
  • stone tile,
  • carpet tile (a.k.a., modular carpet),
  • rubber tile, and
  • vinyl tile (a.k.a. vinyl composition tile or luxury vinyl tile).
