stair tread

The stair treads are the horizontal steps of the staircase upon which individuals step or thread (i.e., to walk). (See illustration below.) The tread absorbs thousands of footsteps that are normally funneled into the middle of the staircase. In fact, few (if any) places in a home or public building are subjected to the volume of intense foot traffic as the treads of a stairwell. As a result, we give careful attention, especially in commercial environments, to recommend or specify flooring products that can endure the impact. The key, for us, is durability and safety over years of use.
