A pattern elongation is a type of manufacturing defect in printed, tufted, or woven flooring. An elongation is most commonly in sheet goods, such as broadloom carpet or sheet vinyl. When goods have pattern elongation, the pattern of two adjoining pieces do not alignment because the pattern of one side is stretched or longer than intended. Goods with pattern elongation can sometimes be used in areas where the elongation is unnoticeable.Related: bow defect or skew defect.
