In the publishing industry, bleed refers to the outer colors or images that run beyond the paper's expected perimeter. That is, these are the colors or images that "bleed" off the page's edge.
The bleed or bleed-out in the flooring industry is similar. Bleed-out is the carpet or other flooring product that extends beyond the border toward the wall. Generally, the bleed-out will be equal on the right and left widthwise and will be equal on the front and back lengthwise. We cut the bleed-out to match the contours of the walls or outer edges.
We frequently incorporate bleed-out when designing large, commercial carpet installations, especially for customers in the hospitality industry or extended care industry.
